As an eminent Orthopaedic Surgeon, Dr. G. S.
Chawara's life mission was to ameliorate the
orthopaedic problems of children and to rehabilitate
them to functional status.
On completion of his medical education at the Sir J.
J. Hospital in Mumbai in 1952, he was associated
with the Children's Orthopedic Hospital located at
Haji Ali as an Honorary Orthopaedic Surgeon.
During his 50 years of Honorary Services to the
Children's Orthopaedic Hospital, Dr. Chawara
performed thousands of Polio Corrective Surgeries
with single-minded devotion. This resulted in
numerous children walking again and pursuing
meaningful vocations.
Mild-mannered, soft-spoken and humility
personified, he never refused any work of social
significance. He continued to perform surgeries till
the age of 80 and enthusiastically attended
conferences and meetings of the Bombay
Orthopaedic Society.
