This quote perfectly describes Dr. Gautam Zaveri, a man on a mission
to fulfil his vision of sharing the Knowledge, Experience and
Expertise that exists within the ranks of the Bombay Orthopaedic
Society with orthopaedic surgeons, both nationally and
internationally.
As BOS President (2025- 2026), under the banner of BOS Worldwide, he
has started a number of new initiatives including Worldwide Webinars
in collaboration with orthopaedic societies across the globe, BOS
Outreach CME programs in 2nd tier cities across India, and the
highly acclaimed BOS Re- Live Surgery Symposia that have been
telecast to over 20 cities across India. His restructuring of the
BOS Clinical meetings and the BOS Basic courses has generated much
interest, and enhanced participation. The BOS MasterSeries
Monographs, a set of 6 books on orthopaedic problems of interest to
the general orthopod is a first for the Bombay Orthopaedic Society
in its six decade long history.
WIROC 2025, the Never Before WIROC, under his Chairmanship promises
to be an academic feast with many firsts, such as the Tech Corridor,
Orthopaedic and Arthroplasty Boot camps, and Masterclasses on Master
techniques. As Organizing Secretary of the fondly remembered WIROC
2019, he introduced the Ghatkopar Khau Galli to orthopaedic
conferences.
He has also energetically led the BOS History Project that has
compiled the six decade long history of our society and brought
forth “Aarohanam”- a coffee table book on BOS History, and “Walk
Down Memory Lane”- an Online Museum of BOS History that is also
being presented at WIROC 2025.
Dr. Gautam Zaveri graduated from the Topiwala National Medical
College & B.Y.L Nair Hospital, and did his postgraduation from
Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College and General Hospital. After
serving as a lecturer for three years, he went to Canada & UK for
training in Spine Surgery. On return to Mumbai at the Jaslok, he
started practice as a Consultant Spine Surgeon. He also served as
Head of Department of Orthopaedics at Rajawadi Municipal Hospital
from 2015- 2020. Presently, he is the Director of Spine Surgery at
Jaslok Hospital & Research Centre, and Consultant Spine Surgeon,
Reliance Foundation & Zen Hospitals.
In the sphere of Spine Surgery too, Dr Zaveri has done truly
impactful work, such as popularizing algorithms for the management
of thoracolumbar trauma and spinal metastases, and pioneering the
posterolateral approach to thoracic and lumbar tuberculosis. He is
the Editor in Chief of the ASSI Monograph Series (a set of 10 books)
on various spine pathologies that has sold over 5000 copies
worldwide. In 2000, he was nominated International Spine Fellow by
ISSLS- the International Society for Study of the Lumbar spine, and
in 2008, he was nominated the Best Asia Pacific Spine Faculty by AO
Spine International. He has served as the Honorary Secretary of the
Association of Spine Surgeons of India from 2019- 2021.
Not one to let go of the joie de vivre , he brought back the oft
remembered and much missed BOS picnic, and started an annual BOS
Sports Day. As BOS draws curtains to 60 glorious years, his
presidency has seen to it that the future years hold much promise
and excitement for the generations to come.
