In the fall of 1993, a man arrived in Bombay from Jammu, carrying
both displacement and a quiet resolve in his heart . Dr. Sanjay Dhar
, a person with a steely and velvet heart , found himself in LTMGH ,
Sion Hospital—among India’s finest trauma centre , which became the
crucible of his professional life. While working alongside stalwarts
such as N. S. Laud, V. T. Ingalhalikar, Joy Patankar, Ajay Puri, Ram
Chaddha, and Arvind Goregaonkar was an experience and privilege that
shaped his foundations. A dream come true for someone displaced by
the violent turmoil in Kashmir.
During these formative years, his bond with the Bombay Orthopaedic
Society took root and steadily grew. Elected to the Executive
Committee in 2001, he discovered BOS as a space defined by academic
integrity and collegial inclusiveness. He was an active participant
in various clinical meetings and courses of BOS.
Dr. Dhar organised WIROC 2003, amid personal loss, which became a
turning point in his journey with the society. From that moment
emerged the Veteran Surgeons Forum, now an enduring WIROC tradition.
As Secretary and later President, his efforts have centred on
strengthening academics and nurturing young talent. During his
Secretaryship initiatives such as postgraduate programs, the Journal
of Clinical Orthopaedics showcased his burning desire to provide
impetus to the growth of the society . During his Presidentship he
introduced new programs like Rising Star, and Student of the Year to
recognize and inspire young talents.
With gratitude for its legacy, he remains committed to BOS and to
the generations it continues to inspire. He is confident that BOS
will continue to flourish and maintain its place in exploring new
frontiers in orthopaedic education and advocacy.
