Dr. Shubhranshu S. Mohanty
“Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying - I will try again tomorrow.”
~ Mary Anne Radmacher

Patience! Persistence!! Perseverance!!!
These three words can’t be better described when you want to talk about Dr. Shubhranshu S. Mohanty, who landed up in the dream city in 1994 fascinated by the elegance of charismatic Dr. K. T. Dholakia. One and half years of sincerity and hard work paid him off to make his own space as Faculty at the premier institute of King Edward Memorial Hospital with his merit as well as the blessings of well-wishers.

He justified his position through his devotion to academics, an eye for perfection, regular presentation in scientific meetings and scientific publications. Designated as an achiever of most of the prestigious fellowships like AO, APAS, RORF, BIOS, Wrightington amongst others. Dr. Mohanty pursued an interest in Arthroplasty circles by organising Basic and Advanced courses under the aegis of the Bombay Orthopaedic Society.

Elected as EC Member of BOS in 2002, Organising two WIROCs in 2003 (as Co-org. Secretary) and 2004 (Org. Secretary) had been the landmark events to showcase that residential conferences had their own charm by providing ample time for leisure and networking, besides academics. He maintained his close association with the BOS by subsequently taking over as Secretary & Treasurer followed by the Vice-President.

“Adjust Adversaries to your Advantage”- was the motto for SSM when finally, he took over as ‘President’ in 2020 when the pandemic started, it was a daunting task to lead a 2700 odd members’ society when the lockdown was in force. Such a well-structured organisation could not lag behind. He was instrumental in organising virtual “Clinical meetings” and “Master Series” keeping the BOS active as an academic organisation maintaining its glory and dignity. Simultaneously, being the President of the Indian Arthroplasty Association has been a challenging task for him to smoothly run both these organisations during these times.

Firm to his commitments and belief, he took a hard decision of organising a physical WIROC 2020 aptly named, ‘WIROC Unlocked‘ in March 2021 in a narrow window between the first and the second wave of the pandemic, when everyone’s interest in virtual meetings was dwindling. Instrumental in organising an AGM during WIROC, electronic voting during Annual General Body Elections started during his tenure. The legacy of honesty, integrity and ethics continues in his endeavours in teaching and training of orthopods and devotion towards the upliftment of Bombay Orthopaedic Society.
