As a starry-eyed young man and a medical graduate, Dr. Sunil always dreamt of following in the footsteps of his legendary father, the late Dr. M. N. Shahane. Dr. Sunil’s journey in the BOS began in the early 2000s as an Executive Council Member working for the Golden Jubilee IOACON in 2005.

He was the 1st to formulate protocols for plenary sessions like Dr. R. J. Katrak oration and Dr. K. T. Dholakia Memorial lecture which were later refined and incorporated in the WIROC blue book.

During his tenure as BOS Secretary and later BOS Treasurer, he initiated a number of measures to streamline the organisation of BOS courses making them seamless at the back end. As the BOS Vice President in 2015, Dr. Sunil Shahane got an opportunity to work in the Executive Council during the Golden Jubilee of the Bombay Orthopaedic Society.

He considers his ‘crowning moment’ when it took over the mantle of Hon. BOS President in 2019; 25 years after his father had held the post, thus being the first father and son pair to hold this distinction. He ended his tenure as BOS President with an extremely successful conference WIROC 2019.

In his own words, he feels that his journey in the BOS has been extremely enriching and rewarding and that, he remains eternally grateful to all the BOS members for providing him with an opportunity to serve the society over the years.
