A pioneering surgeon, a strict disciplinarian, a good
teacher and a kind-hearted human being. This is how
Dr. N. S. Laud describes Dr. K. S. Masalawala.
Starting his career as an Associate to Dr. M. V. Sant,
Dr. Masalawala went on to work at the Sir J. J.
Hospital, where he did pioneering work on
Tuberculosis of the Spine. At that time, he had the
largest series of patients with Operative &
Non-Operative Treatment of Spinal Tuberculosis.
A stickler for punctuality, he joined forces with
Dr. J. C. N. Joshipura and Dr. J. C. Taraporvala to
start the Bone Tumour Registry at Sir J. J. Hospital.
He was elected the President of the I. O. A., and
worked tirelessly in promoting the I. O. A. into a
progressive association.
The K. S. Masalawala Best Paper Session and Award,
which is the most prestigious award in the category
of Competitive Paper Presentation at WIROC, has
been instituted by the B. O. S. to commemorate the
life and work of this great visionary.
