They say that adversity causes some men to break,
while others to break records. Going by the book of the
Bombay Orthopaedic Society, there isn't a record
that Dr. Ram Chaddha hasn't surpassed.
Dr. K. S. Masalawala's Best Paper winner, the youngest
member to speak at the Young Surgeons' Forum in
WIROC, the Youngest Executive Council member to
become a WIROC Secretary, Secretary & Treasurer and
Vice President of the B. O. S. and finally wore the mantle
of the President of the B. O. S. in its Golden Jubilee Year.
One might be led to believe that he is the luckiest person
on earth but the truth is that he has often dared to tread
the road less travelled and that has made all the
difference. Born to Mr. Manmohan Krishna Chaddha
and Mrs. Rajesh Nandini, Ram was their fourth and last
son; their earlier progeny being lost to untimely and
unnatural deaths.
Getting through school and college with a keen interest
in Academics and Dramatics, Dr. Ram joined the L. T. M.
M. C. at Sion in 1980. He started his Orthopaedic
Residency and trained under Dr. N. S. Laud in 1986.
After completing his M.S. (Orth.), he joined the staff of
the Hospital as a Lecturer in 1989.
He later resigned
from the Department as an Associate Professor and
joined the M. I. O. T. Hospitals in Chennai as the Chief of
Division - Spine Surgery, which fine-tuned both his skill
and capability in patient care and counselling.
Getting back to his karmabhoomi in Mumbai, he joined
the Lilavati Hospital as an Orthopaedic Surgeon with a
special interest in Spinal Surgery and continues to work
there in addition to the Saifee and Wockhardt Hospitals
in Mumbai. He is also the Professor and Head of
Orthopedics at the K. J. Somaiya Hospital & Medical
College.
Additionally, he was the President of the "Association of
Spine Surgeons of India (2015-17)", one of the largest
recognized Societies of Spine Surgeons in the world,
boasting of over 1300 members.
His theme for B. O. S "Truth, transparency and trust in
treatment". This reflects the way he looks at himself, as a
clinician with the intent to treat; and believes that a
doctor can only be godly, not God.
