His colleagues often describe him as strong, silent
and secure. But he is their "Go-to Man' in times of
crisis. Often shying away from the limelight and
staying in the background, Dr. Samant has indeed
been a 'Rock of Gibraltar' and has risen to the
occasion each time he was delegated a responsibility
by the Bombay Orthopaedic Society.
Making a mark in student politics while training in
orthopaedics at the Sion Hospital, Dr. Samant was an
active member of the Residents Council and the
M. A. R. D. and was instrumental in leading many
strikes against the establishment.
After his training, he worked at the L. T. M. G. Hospital
and the Rajawadi Hospital as an Honorary and Unit
Chief, before joining the Padmashree Dr. D. Y. Patil
Hospital and Medical College as Professor of
Orthopaedics and Head of Department, where he
currently works.
During his Presidential term in 2013, he chose to be
brief in his own Presidential address, so that the
timing of the Scientific Program was uncompromised.
He also has a keen interest in the medical
jurisprudence and is often called on to deliver
lectures on this subject at various meetings and
conferences.
