Humour is a trait that can't be developed; either you
have it or you don't. Some amongst us are blessed
with it. In the hierarchy of the Bombay Orthopaedic
Society, Dr. A. R. Karkhanis personifies this trait the
most.
A hardcore "G. M. C.-ite" and student to the great Dr.
K. S. Masalawala, Dr. J. C. N. Joshipura, and
Dr. J. C. Taraporwala, Dr. Karkhanis developed a
unique style of adding a quotient of humor to his
scientific talks while delivering them with ease and
lucidity. An ardent fan of the A. O. principles, he has
convened & conducted a significant number of
Fracture Fixation courses for the Bombay
Orthopaedic Society during his tenure as an
Honorary Professor & Head of Orthopaedics at the
Cooper Hospital.
Extremely well-read and always willing to chip into a
scientific argument, he has performed, presented
and published exemplary clinical work in conferences
all over the world. His case series includes the
conservative management of long bone fractures
using the Sarmiento technique of bracing and the
Fixation of Intracapsular fractures of the neck and of
the femur.
Dr. Karkhanis conducts his clinical practice at the
Nanavati Hospital in Mumbai and was also the
convener the J. C. Taraporewala Post Graduate
Teaching Program of the B. O. S.
