At 79, Dr. A. G. Ambardekar is a satisfied man. He
very eloquently quotes Frank Sinatra's song, "I did it
my way".
Born in an illustrious family, Dr. Ambardekar's father
was an Anesthetist to the great Dr. K. T. Dholakia and
had the opportunity of administering anaesthesia to
many celebrities during his practice.
Dr. Ambardekar completed his Orthopedic Training
from the K. E. M. Hospital in Mumbai in the year 1969
and pursued further training in England. He returned
to India in 1971 and began working with Dr. N. S. Laud
and Dr. V. T. Ingalhalikar at the Sion Hospital. He was
exceedingly inclined towards academics and went on
to publish 15 scientific papers in Indexed Journals.
During his academic career, which spanned nearly
30 years, he was a Post Graduate teacher and guide
to almost 50 students including the Past President of
the Bombay Orthopaedic Society, Dr. Ram Chaddha.
He retired from the Sion Hospital in the year 2000
and was also a Professor of Orthopedics at the
Bombay Port Trust Hospital fulfilling his passion for
teaching.
