Dr. D. D. Tanna
“Shallow men believe in luck. Strong men believe in cause and effect".
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

Any academic meeting of the Bombay Orthopaedic Society is considered incomplete unless a gentleman with silver-grey hair and a deep authoritative voice gives his opinion on the matter of debate. His opinion is usually considered the 'Final Word' on the subject and his suggestions, the Gold standards of patient care.

Such is the power and prowess of Dr. D. D. Tanna. Widely recognized by all as the "Father of Interlock Surgery in India' and widely respected by the fraternity around the World, Dr. Tanna is an institution in himself. Starting his career as a lecturer at the Nair Hospital, his dynamism and confidence led his senior, Dr. K. V. Chaubal, to promote him to the position of Unit Chief in a period of three years.

During his long and illustrious career in Orthopedics, Dr. Tanna was the first Surgeon to acquire and use the C-Arm (Image Intensifier) in the country. He was also the pioneer of Interlock nailing in India, after experimenting with 'K' Nails by drilling locking slots into them. He was one of the first Surgeons to start Total Hip and Total Knee Arthroplasty in Mumbai.

He has been a very active member of the Bombay Orthopaedic Society. During his Presidential tenure, he was proactive in reducing the time given for all formal activities at conferences such as lamp lighting, introductory speeches, the Presidential speech and closing talks, utilizing this time for Academics instead. He, along with his colleagues Dr. Sudhir Babhulkar and Dr. G. S. Kulkarni, started 'Traumacon', which has become a great success in the last few years. He is extremely well-read, well-published and completely updated with the latest trends in Orthopaedic Surgery.

Dr. D. D. Tanna continues to inspire future generations by running a flourishing private practice, training young surgeons and imparting his invaluable pearls of wisdom.
