Late Dr. S. K. Bulchandani
“Success is achieved by ordinary people with extraordinary determination”
~ Zig Ziglar

During the making of the first edition of this book, a calm and gentle voice greeted me when we made a telephone call to Bangalore and requested to speak with Dr. S. K. Bulchandani. The demeanour in his voice was a tiny insight about his modesty and simplicity, unusual for one who had made significantly large academic achievements and contributions to the Bombay Orthopaedic Society.

It is our deepest regret that Dr. S. K. Bulchandani, one of our senior-most Past Presidents was the only one with whom we were deprived the privilege of a personal interview, as he was residing in Bangalore. However, he was extremely kind in letting us visit his Mumbai residence, so that his photograph could be procured and published for this book in the year 2015 when this book was first published . He was later felicitated by the Bombay Orthopaedic Society in the year 2017.

Dr. S. K. Bulchandani initially joined the teaching staff at the Sir J. J. Group of Hospitals for a short time before shifting to the G. T. Hospital through a promotion. During his time there, he successfully arranged a workshop by Dr. John Hall on Surgery for Scoliosis in the year 1966. This workshop was very well attended and was extremely informative for the members of the Bombay Orthopaedic Society.

During this workshop, Dr. John Hall examined patients with scoliosis, operated upon a few of them, and gave a few lectures over a period of about two weeks. This trip was facilitated by the Lion's Club and proved to be one of the most inspirational academic events for the generation next' Spine Surgeons of Mumbai, thanks to the efforts of Dr. S. K. Bulchandani.
